WHY ERICEIRA

Come for nature.
Stay for community.

There is nowhere quite like this. And anyone who has lived here knows it, loves it, and stays for it.

History

A place with roots.

The Palace of Mafra stands fifteen minutes inland, built by King João V at the height of Portuguese imperial power, when this small country was charting oceans, naming continents, and connecting the world. The palace was built to reflect that ambition. Children who grow up in its shadow understand that world-shaping ideas can come from small beginnings. They can come from exactly here.

The fishing boats still go out. The catch still comes in each morning. The restaurants still serve it. The whitewashed houses are still there, and so is the smell of salt and pine. This isn't preserved or performed. It's just how it is.

Portugal has topped the charts for expat relocation in Europe for the better part of a decade. The digital nomads who arrived in 2021 settled down, had children, and many of them ended up here. A whole new generation to plant roots.

Nature

The location is the point.

Over 300 days of sun. Atlantic winds that keep the summers bearable. The ocean five minutes west. Pine forests to the north. Sintra thirty minutes south, Lisbon forty. There are not many places in Europe where you get all of this at once.

The waves here are among the finest in Europe. Ericeira is one of only two World Surfing Reserves on the continent: a stretch of coastline protected because what breaks here is genuinely special.

Life here is lived at a human scale. Your children can be outside without it being an event. The food is good, the pace is real, and the light on the water in the late afternoon is exactly what you hoped it would be.

THE PEOPLE

The community is the gem.

Everyone here made the same call.

You left something behind, chose a different life, arrived without your full network. So you invest in each other quickly, and the friendships go deep. You rely on each other in a way that doesn't happen in cities, because here you have to, and because it turns out you want to.

Kids on bikes at Ribeira while parents are out in the surf. Playing in the main square while grabbing a bite at Pão da Vila. Catching up with friends while queuing for pastries at Vizinha. Looking for starfish in the rock pools at Sul. Having a drink at Balagan as the sun goes down over the horizon. The same faces, again and again. It stops feeling coincidental and starts feeling like home.

The children are growing up together. So are their parents. Telos is being built within that community, not alongside it.

Why Telos

We want to be here.
But we don't want to compromise.

Many families on this coast are already here, or are deciding. They've chosen the coast, the pace, the community. The one thing they haven't been able to choose is a school that matches. Children are making 35 to 60-minute commutes to Sintra, Cascais, or Lisbon twice a day, every day.

There is no internationally accredited school in all of Mafra. There should be.

Telos is being built to change that. World-class education. No commute. No compromise.
